I used to do this all the time and, for some unknown reason I totally forgot the easiest way in the world to make most salads taste dramatically better…
Wait 10-20 minutes before eating them and stir them a few times while waiting.
Yet most recipes don’t suggest resting your salad.
I believe there’s two reasons this is so important:
- The flavors will mix and develop together. On the occasion that you do hear about resting a salad this is the most common reason given. It is true but it’s not nearly as important as the second reason.
- If you’re salad contains salt or sugar it will pull liquids from the food you are eating. Juice is pulled from apples, berries and even the greens. If you let it sit too long it will become watery (that’s a drag) but if you give a salad a few minutes to rest you will find that this liquid will add to the dressing and increase the flavor in each bite.
