Tomorrow morning marks two connected events for us:
- It’s the start of archery season in Huntsville, Ontario.
- The 5th anniversary of Edible Toronto hits the shelves.
While the two may not appear to be directly related, the issue contains my most personal article on hunting yet. It also contains this beautiful illustration created by Dana:
The article examines my personal choice to hunt and part of my reconciliation in deciding to kill as part of my diet. It’s not an attempt to glamorize hunting nor convince others to do the same but I hope it sheds some light on a part of my life that many aren’t exposed to.
It’s fair to say that I’m nervous about the reaction to an article that examines the killing part of hunting. It isn’t natural for me to openly discuss what killing means to me and how I’ve struggled to come to terms with it.
I welcome (civil) feedback even if you are not comfortable with my perspective. I also welcome any questions. I do hope you’ll check it out with an open mind.
